KARACHI:

The inquiry report regarding the granting of extraordinary protocol to Anmol alias Pinky has been completed. DIG west Irfan Baloch has forwarded the report to the IG Sindh and the Karachi police chief.

The report points out serious negligence on the part of police officers and personnel. It was also revealed that Anmol Pinky was provided with mobile phones during court appearances.

According to the report, the police violated rules and regulations in the matter.

The report further disclosed continuous communication between a senior officer of south zone and an officer of Garden police station. The officers, escorting Pinky to court, reportedly kept sharing moment-by-moment updates with south zone officers through WhatsApp. The report also recommends departmental action against certain officers.

The SHO of Garden police station, the SIO, and the IO were suspended after Pinky's first court appearance.

Videos of Pinky's court appearance had gone viral on social media, leading to severe criticism of the police.

Following DIG Irfan Baloch's report, the chief secretary on Tuesday issued orders suspending SP City, Ali Hassan and directed him to report to the police headquarters.

Physical remand

The court of the Judicial Magistrate south has issued a written order granting a three-day physical remand of drug suspect Anmol alias Pinky in cases related to narcotics. The court noted that the accused did not make any complaints of mistreatment.

Defence counsel Mir Hidayatullah Khan, Nasir Khan, and Asadullah Khan submitted their power of attorney and argued that granting physical remand would yield no useful outcome, requesting that the accused be sent to judicial custody instead.

However, prosecutors Shakeel Abbasi and Hassan Mehboob opposed the request, stating that the accused is named in the charge sheet and is involved in the buying and selling of narcotics.
