Trade leader, brother shot dead in Rawalpindi

Police suspect resentment over case registered in earlier road accident as motive

RAWALPINDI:

An armed motorcyclist shot and killed the Vice President of Gujar Khan Anjuman-e-Tajran Malik Mehboob, along with his brother, on the Railway Road, within the limits of ??Gujar Khan police station in Rawalpindi. The accused fled after firing.

According to police officials, Vice President Malik Mehboob was sitting at his grocery wholesale store with his brother Malik Mehmood when an armed suspect on a motorcycle arrived there, pulled out a pistol and started firing. Both brothers were seriously injured in the firing and succumbed to their wounds soon after, while the suspect managed to escape.

Sources confirmed that some time ago, Malik Mehboob had gotten into an accident with a car belonging to a person named Naseer, who was said to have been posted in the Revenue Department. Mehboob had registered a case against Naseer. While Naseer and others wanted to reconcile and end the matter, Mehboob and his companions were not willing to do so. The police believe this issue had become a point of contention between both parties.

The police has said that the young man accused of shooting the two brothers is reportedly named Moazzam. Further investigations are underway. Operation SSP Malik Tariq Mehboob and other police officials have already investigated the site of the murder and collected evidence under. The bodies have also been shifted to the hospital for postmortem.

Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani took notice of the double murder. The police spokesperson said that as per initial investigations, the murder was likely carried out of resentment for the case registered against the party who caused the car accident. The police have vowed to arrest the accused soon.

Young man dies in fire

A man burned to his death in a fire which broke out at a stationery warehouse located in Karwan Plaza, in the Ganj Mandi area. A 28-year-old worker named Safiullah, who was sleeping inside the warehouse, died due to smoke inhalation. Rescue firefighters brought the fire under control.
