Wapda hydel generation crosses 6,000MW

With increased indent by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) from the water reservoirs, Wapda's hydel power generation surpassed 6,000MW, supplying 6,118MW to the national grid during peak hours last night, according to a statement on Monday.

Tarbela Hydel Power Station contributed 2,332MW, with its fourth extension adding 1,095MW. Ghazi Barotha generated 1,160MW, Mangla 930MW, Warsak 135MW and Chashma 101MW. Wapda's other medium and small hydel stations produced the remaining 365MW.

Wapda said hydel electricity is the most affordable clean and green energy in the national grid and subsidises the entire energy sector.
