KARACHI:

The Sindh government has announced major relief for the business community and the public by lifting previously imposed restrictions on the closing hours of commercial activities across the province.

The restrictions were introduced as part of a nationwide energy conservation strategy to deal with potential disruption to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz following the US-Israel war on the Iran.

According to a statement issued by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, all shops, markets, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, food outlets, wedding halls and marquees have been exempted from earlier prescribed closing timings. With this decision, business establishments will now be able to operate according to their routine hours without any time-based restrictions.

The senior minister said that the earlier timings were introduced under an energy conservation and austerity policy. However, after reviewing representations from traders, industrial stakeholders, and considering ground realities, the Sindh government has decided to withdraw the restrictions in order to facilitate uninterrupted business activity.

Sharjeel stated that the provincial government remains committed to promoting economic activity, improving public convenience, and ensuring macroeconomic stability. He added that all decisions are being taken in consultation with relevant stakeholders and in the broader public interest.

He further said that the trader community plays a vital role in the country's economy and is considered its backbone. The government, he added, is taking all possible measures to address their concerns and resolve issues affecting business operations.

The senior minister maintained that despite challenging economic conditions, the Sindh government has consistently safeguarded the interests of both the public and the business community, and will continue to take steps aimed at strengthening economic activity, employment generation, and commercial growth in the province.
