Alleged robber killed in police 'shootout'
An alleged robber was killed while his accomplice escaped during a reported police encounter in the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station on Saturday.
According to a spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police, police signalled two suspicious motorcyclists to stop, upon which the suspects allegedly opened fire. A gun battle subsequently ensued between police and the armed assailants.
During the exchange of fire, one suspected robber was killed and later identified as Shah Rukh, while his accomplice managed to flee the scene. Police also seized the motorcycle and weapons allegedly used by the suspects.
Police said the deceased suspect had allegedly shot dead a citizen during a robbery in the New Town area two days earlier. He was also accused of injuring another citizen during a robbery attempt in the jurisdiction of Banni Police Station a few days ago after the victim reportedly offered resistance.
