Committee reviews draft of narcotics control bill
Balochistan Assembly's Standing Committee on Excise and Anti-Narcotics Chairman, Engineer Zamurk Khan Achakzai, has declared that the scourge of narcotics is devastating the younger generation and the future of society. He insisted that there must be no discrimination in law enforcement to eradicate this curse, and that all individuals must be treated equally.
The chairman made these remarks during a committee meeting held at the Assembly Committee Room under his leadership. The session was attended by committee members Muhammad Khan Lehri, Maulvi Noorullah, and Safiya Bibi.
Also present were Assembly Secretary Tahir Shah Kakar, Excise Secretary Syed Zafar Ali Bukhari, Special Secretary for Committees Abdul Rehman, and Additional Secretary for Law Saeed Iqbal.
During the meeting, the draft of the Balochistan Controlled Substances (Narcotics) Bill 2026 was discussed in detail. Briefing the committee, relevant officials explained that after the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, the domain of drug prevention was devolved to the provinces. Consequently, the Balochistan Government amended the Rules of Business 2012, entrusting this responsibility to the Excise and Anti-Narcotics Department.
The briefing further stated that the proposed bill aims to establish an effective legal framework to prevent narcotics.
