Robbers loot family, woman allegedly assaulted

Armed robbers allegedly looted cash and gold ornaments from a house in Sadiq Town and sexually assaulted a woman during the incident, police said on Tuesday.
Police said two unidentified armed men barged into the house of a citizen identified as Ehsanul Haq in the Sadiq Town area and held the family hostage at gunpoint.
The suspects allegedly snatched half a tola of gold ornaments and Rs200,000 in cash before reportedly assaulting a woman of the household.
The victim was shifted to hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Following the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Vehari Tasawur Iqbal and DSP Rana Imran Tipu visited the scene and assured the family that the suspects would be arrested soon.
Police said investigations were under way and raids were being conducted to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, local residents expressed concern over the rising crime rate in the jurisdiction of City Police Station, claiming that more than 80 motorcycles had been stolen during the past year.
Citizens also criticised the performance of local police officials, alleging that despite increasing incidents of crime, effective action had not been taken to improve law and order in the area.
