PM directs full utilisation of resources to strengthen law enforcement agencies after recent terror attacks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed that all available resources be utilised to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the remarks were made during an important meeting on the country’s law and order situation and the affairs of the Ministry of Interior, held under the chairmanship of the prime minister.
PM Shehbaz said strengthening law enforcement institutions remained a top priority of the government. “All available resources will be utilised to ensure the protection of public life and property,” he said.

He directed the authorities to strictly implement a zero-tolerance policy against corruption within law enforcement institutions.
“Corruption in law enforcement agencies will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
The prime minister also instructed that all recruitments in institutions working under the Ministry of Interior, including the Federal Investigation Agency, be ensured purely on merit.

He further emphasised the need to equip officials with modern training and skills to effectively deal with emerging security challenges.
“We must prepare our forces for evolving and modern security challenges through advanced training,” he said.
The premier also called for providing law enforcement agencies with modern equipment, advanced technology and professional resources.

During the meeting, participants were informed that the under-construction jail in Islamabad would become operational in September this year.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the meeting on the performance and future development plans of the Federal Investigation Agency, Islamabad Police, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, Federal Constabulary, Capital Development Authority and other institutions operating under the Ministry of Interior.
The meeting was attended by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, as well as heads of law enforcement agencies.
The remarks came hours after an explosion in the Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), where at least nine people, including two traffic police personnel, were killed and 33 others injured.
Earlier in the day, the interior minister paid an official visit to the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, where he chaired a high-level meeting and reviewed multiple development projects aimed at modernising police training in Pakistan.
During the visit, the minister inspected the under-construction multi-storey hostel and reviewed a model room, issuing directives to further improve and upgrade the facilities.
He also set May 31 as the deadline for the completion of the Elite Police Training School project, announcing that elite-level training for officers would now be conducted at the NPA instead of provincial institutions.
“We are shifting elite training to a central, modernised facility to ensure uniform and high-quality standards across the force,” the minister said.

The development comes after a suicide attack on a police checkpoint in Bannu in which 15 personnel were martyred on Sunday. A banned outfit, Ittehad Mujahideen Pakistan, belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij, claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to a report submitted to the City Police Office, the attackers rammed a vehicle laden with 1,200 to 1,500 kilogrammes of explosives into the checkpoint before detonating it, resulting in the deaths of 15 police personnel.
The report stated that the explosion took place at around 8:30pm, causing severe damage to the checkpoint building. It added that the attackers also attempted to storm the facility in an effort to seize the equipment present inside.
Authorities said the vehicle used in the attack was a loader rickshaw.
