NOWSHERA VIRKAN:

A powerful windstorm swept through Nowshera Virkan and surrounding areas, killing an eight-year-old boy and injuring five other people, according to Rescue 1122 officials. They said the child was killed in Karlke village after the roof of a house collapsed during the storm. Two other people were injured in the incident.

The winds also uprooted a number of large trees and ripped solar panels from rooftops across the area.

In Khan Musalman village, Tasawur was injured after falling from a roof while attempting to secure solar panels during the storm.

Meanwhile, two teenage siblings were hurt in Dera Gujran when another roof collapsed, the officials added.

Electricity supply from all feeders in Nowshera Virkan was suspended amid the severe weather.

Rescue 1122 said the collapse in Karlke occurred when part of a weakened wall from a neighbouring elevated house fell onto the affected home, causing its deteriorating roof to cave in.

At the time, the two children of Muhammad Fayyaz were in the room, while other family members had gone outside to check on their livestock.

The officials said Fayyaz was also injured after entering the collapsed structure in an attempt to rescue his children.

According to rescue sources, Ahmad, aged eight, died on the spot after suffering severe head injuries. The injured Fayyaz, 45, and Falak Sher, 15, were given first aid by rescue personnel before being transferred to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera Virkan.
