Inmate escapes from Malir Jail during Marka-e-Haq event
In a troubling security lapse that has raised serious questions over prison management, an undertrial prisoner allegedly involved in murder and kidnapping cases escaped from Malir Jail during a "Marka-e-Haq" ceremony on Saturday.
According to police and jail officials, a case has been registered at Shah Latif Town police station on the complaint of the assistant superintendent of the jail, citing negligence and carelessness on the part of prison staff.
Four police personnel, including the beat in-charge, have been nominated in the case. Jail officials stated that a ceremony in connection with Marka-e-Haq celebrations was underway inside the prison premises.
However, after the event concluded and routine counting was carried out at Barrack No 3, Circle 1, prisoner Tahir Naveed, alias "Polka", was found missing.
Police said Tahir Naveed was arrested last month by Joharabad Investigation Police and had a criminal history, including his alleged involvement in the Wali Babar murder case.
