Underage drivers' vehicles to be impounded

Traffic police have warned that vehicles driven by underage drivers in the city will be impounded in police stations in addition to issuance of challans.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi said motorists driving cars with learner permits or expired licences would face a fine of Rs5,000 and motorcycle riders Rs2,000. Action would also be taken against triple riding, he added.
The CTO said commercial vehicles could not be driven on car or motorcycle licences, adding that a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence was mandatory for buses,wagons and other public transport vehicles. Drivers of trucks and other heavy vehicles must possess a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) licence. Shirazi said checking points had been established outside licence offices to identify motorists without valid licences. The city has 11 driving testing centres,two vans and 20 facilitation centres.
