"The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world." - William Ross Wallace

The world would be a barren place without mothers. One does not need to think for long to understand the value of this beautiful blessing called 'mother'. For centuries, mothers have been unique icons in shaping families, communities and entire nations. From birth to adulthood, they set examples of love, sacrifice for their families and dedicate their lives to comfort and nurture their children. In many cases, they sacrifice their own health and happiness to ensure a better future for the next generation. Throughout history, some trailblazer mothers have ruled the world while simultaneously raising children and fulfilling countless other responsibilities. They have broken barriers through their endless struggles and challenged the narratives that pushed women into the background.

In earlier times, women - particularly mothers - were expected to remain confined within the four walls of the home. Their duties were limited to raising children and managing household chores, while men were considered the sole contributors to social and economic development. However, mothers have played a vital role since the beginning of civilisation. No barriers or societal narratives could stop them from becoming trailblazers. History is filled with examples of brave mothers who have successfully balanced leadership with family commitment. One remarkable example is Queen Elizabeth II, the matriarch of the Royal Family, who ruled for seventy years while raising four children. Another inspiring figure is Marie Curie, the only woman to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields - Physics and Chemistry. Alongside her groundbreaking scientific achievements, she also raised two daughters, one of whom continued her scientific legacy. Similarly, Margaret E. Knight, often called "the Female Edison," became one of the most prolific inventors of her time and inspired future generations through her innovation and determination. Ancient history also provides the example of Cornelia Africana, a highly educated Roman woman who prioritised the intellectual and political upbringing of her sons, encouraging them to serve society and reform public life. These exemplary mothers proved that leadership and nurturing can successfully coexist.

For centuries, mothers have excelled in many fields while continuing to guide their families with wisdom and care. In the modern era, there are countless examples of trailblazer mothers who continue to inspire the world. Serena Williams, one of the greatest tennis champions in history, won the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant. Even after motherhood, she continued to excel in sports and business while confidently raising her children. Likewise, Michelle Obama has become a symbol of education and women empowerment, proving that motherhood and leadership can go hand in hand.

In addition, single mothers deserve special recognition and tribute. This is another powerful form of motherhood that reflects extraordinary courage and resilience. They often carry the responsibilities of both parents, including earning a livelihood, raising children and maintaining the household. Every burden falls upon their shoulders, and many endure financial hardships and emotional struggles. Despite these challenges, they become pillars of strength for their children and continue to provide love and security. Their sacrifices deserve the highest respect.

All mothers, in one way or another, have paved pathways for future generations through their endless struggles and unconditional love. In today's fast-paced world, a mother remains the purest form of relationship humanity has ever known. A child's first school is the mother's lap, where lessons of kindness, courage, honesty and perseverance begin. Through her guidance and sacrifices, she shapes not only individual lives but entire communities and societies. Indeed, trailblazer mothers are the true architects of human progress.
