LAHORE:

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging alleged overpricing in cattle markets, the operation of untrained butchers during Eidul Adha, and reported restrictions on the preparation of "Siri Paye" in Punjab.

The petition was filed by citizen Muneeb Tariq, who argued that temporary cattle markets established across the province ahead of Eidul Adha were operating without officially displayed price lists, allowing traders to charge arbitrary rates from buyers.

Thousands of untrained individuals perform slaughtering services during Eidul Adha despite the absence of any registration.

The petitioner contended that improper slaughtering practices result in meat wastage, contamination risks, and damage to animal hides, causing financial losses to citizens.
