MULTAN:

Police in the Mumtazabad area have registered a case against a husband, his brother and sister-in-law after the bodies of a woman and her children were found hanging in a local slum area, officials said.

Police said the bodies of the woman and her minor children were recovered from the jurisdiction of Mumtazabad Police Station after residents alerted authorities.

The husband has been arrested, while raids are underway to detain other nominated suspects.

In a written complaint, Allah Ditta, the brother of the deceased woman identified as Nigah Yasmin alias Maryam Bibi, stated that she was married to Murtaza in 2022 and had two twin sons, Faqir Hassan and Faqir Hussain.

The couple also had a daughter named Umm Hoorain born in 2025.

The complainant alleged that his sister had repeatedly informed him through a neighbour's phone that she was being subjected to physical abuse and harassment over dowry demands.

She reportedly said that in-laws frequently pressured her to bring additional dowry items.

He further stated that when he reached the residence with his brothers after receiving the call, he was told by neighbours that unknown persons had killed the woman and her children.

However, upon investigation at the scene, the complainant alleged that his sister and nephews were in fact killed by Murtaza, along with his relatives Akbar and Shagufta.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim's brother and have begun further legal proceedings.
