Alleged addict dies in police custody

A man reportedly addicted to narcotics has died while in custody at Khanpur Police Station.

According to the police, the suspect's condition deteriorated late at night on Tuesday, after which he was shifted to the hospital, where he could not be revived.

Sources said that the deceased, identified as Junaid, a resident of Lahore, had been arrested the previous day near Allied Bank in Tarnawa under suspicious circumstances and was subsequently lodged in the lock-up.

Police said the suspect was addicted to heroin and "ice" (crystal methamphetamine) and was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
