Dunham’s memoir reportedly details Antonoff’s unnamed 'teen pop star' fling, sparking speculation it refers to Lorde

Lorde’s mother, Sonja Yelich, appeared to respond publicly to Lena Dunham following renewed discussion surrounding Jack Antonoff and rumours connected to the singer’s 2017 album Melodrama.
The online reaction followed Lena Dunham’s appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, where she spoke in an interview shared by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s official social media accounts about the importance of the museum in her life.
“It was just the most incredible education, and as I’ve grown up, I’ve appreciated more and more what this place is for so many New Yorkers, for students, for artists, for people who just want a place to experience something like church or temple. It’s a religious experience to move through this museum,” Dunham said.
While many social media users praised her comments, others criticised her appearance at the event. One Instagram user commented, “No one gives a shit about your opinion Lena,” to which Yelich replied, “No one.”

The response quickly drew attention online, particularly as Dunham recently discussed her past relationship with music producer Jack Antonoff in her memoir Famesick, released last month.
According to Variety, Dunham wrote about Antonoff’s relationship with an unnamed “teen pop star”, leading many readers to speculate that the chapter referenced Lorde during the recording of Melodrama. Dunham did not directly identify the singer in the memoir.
“One day I returned home from a bone density test to find her sprawled across our sectional couch, weeping into Jack’s lap as he told her that ‘your teens are for experimenting’ in a tone so comforting, it almost brought tears to my eyes,” Dunham wrote.
She also referenced the viral 2018 PowerPoint presentation created by Hillary Benton, which alleged Antonoff had cheated on Dunham with Lorde. Dunham wrote that the presentation was “so convincing that they had me rethinking events that I myself had been present for.”
Neither Lorde nor Antonoff has publicly commented on the renewed speculation.
