Four die, two children injured in roof collapse
At least four people were killed and two children injured when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Ludhar village near Shakargarh on Tuesday.
Rescue 1122 officials said the incident occurred while concrete was being poured on the roof slab of the house.
The roof suddenly caved in due to overloading, trapping six people under the debris.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving the emergency call.
Personnel from Rescue 1122 stations in Narowal, Shakargarh and Nurkot took part in the operation and launched an immediate rescue effort.
Rescuers carried out the operation for nearly two hours and managed to pull all six victims from the rubble. However, four of them had died on the spot, while two children were rescued alive and shifted for medical treatment.
The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Sadaf, 45-year-old Rafaqat, 10-year-old Hameed and six-year-old Shanzeh.
Rescue officials said all four sustained severe head injuries, which proved fatal.
The injured children were identified as seven-month-old Muhammad Faraz and one-and-a-half-year-old Hadia.
After receiving first aid at the scene, both were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Shakargarh. Doctors said their condition was stable and they were out of danger.
District Emergency Officer Engineer Aurangzeb also reached the site and personally supervised the rescue operation.
He remained in close coordination with relevant departments to ensure timely and effective rescue efforts.
Speaking to the media after the operation, he expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged the public to strictly observe safety measures during construction work.
