Colombian pop icon Shakira delivered one of the largest live performances of her career, drawing an estimated two million fans to Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach for a free concert that underscored her enduring global appeal and deep connection with Latin audiences.

Held under a bright full moon, the concert transformed the iconic shoreline into a vast open-air arena, continuing a recent tradition of record-breaking performances at the venue. The event followed similar appearances by Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga last year, both of whom also attracted massive crowds to the sprawling sands.

Taking the stage shortly after 11pm, more than an hour behind schedule, Shakira appeared dressed in Brazil's national colours, immediately igniting the energy of the crowd. Across Copacabana, vendors capitalised on the influx of visitors, selling food, drinks, merchandise and themed souvenirs tied to the singer's current tour. The city itself had been preparing for days, with promotional material and anticipation building ahead of the event.

For Shakira, the concert marked another milestone in a career spanning decades, during which she has sold more than 90 million records and earned multiple international awards, including Grammys and Latin Grammys. Her ability to command such a vast audience in a free public setting further underscores her cultural reach and continued relevance.
