Four sentenced in murder, drug cases

RAWALPINDI:

The Sessions courts on Thursday handed down severe sentences to four convicts in separate cases involving murder, grievous bodily harm, and narcotics offences, awarding cumulative punishments of life imprisonment, 18 years' imprisonment, and fines exceeding Rs5.15 million.

In one case, Bilal was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay Rs300,000 in compensation for murder. In the same incident, Jibran received five years' imprisonment along with Rs4.91m in diyat/arsh compensation for causing the loss of a citizen's eye, while Muhammad Azram was fined Rs80,000 as daman compensation for causing injury.

The convicts had, in April 2023, murdered a man and injured two others in the Saddar Wah police jurisdiction over a prior dispute.

In a separate case, Tauseef was also sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs200,000 in compensation for murder. He had fatally shot a man in June 2023 within the limits of the Kallar Syedan police station following a personal enmity.

Meanwhile, in two narcotics cases, courts sentenced two drug suppliers to a combined total of 18 years' imprisonment and fines amounting to Rs160,000.

Hussain was awarded nine years' imprisonment and fined Rs80,000 after being arrested by Wah Cantt police in November 2024 with 1.7 kilogrammes of hashish in his possession.
