IHC to hear £190m case appeals today

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court has scheduled a hearing for appeals filed by former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against their conviction in the £190 million case.

The Registrar's Office has issued the cause list for the hearing; a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif will hear the case.

The case was previously scheduled for April 22 but was postponed due to security measures and the closure of the Red Zone in the federal capital amid Iran-US talks.

In January last year, an accountability court convicted Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case, sentencing the former PM to 14 years in prison and his wife to a seven-year jail term.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced the order in a courtroom inside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, where Imran had been detained since September 2023.

In addition to the prison sentences, the court imposed fines of Rs1 million on Imran and Rs500,000 on Bushra.
