Super Mario coffins by Brazilian funeral company go viral after Nintendo-inspired designs

Brazilian funeral company’s Super Mario themed coffins featuring Mario, Luigi and Peach go viral online

A Brazilian funeral company has gone viral after unveiling a range of coffins inspired by Super Mario characters, blending gaming imagery with end-of-life tributes in an unconventional design.

The company, Bignotto, which specialises in urn and coffin manufacturing, shared the designs on Instagram, showcasing coffins themed around well-known Nintendo characters including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Yoshi. The post quickly gained attention online after being widely shared.

In the promotional video, the company referenced the gaming theme, describing the concept as a “game over” moment and suggesting the themed coffins as a playful interpretation of final farewells.

While the visual style draws directly from the video game franchise, the execution remains relatively understated, focusing on colour coding rather than detailed character artwork.

The concept has prompted discussion online, where viewers have shared mixed reactions or suggested additional themed designs based on other gaming franchises.

Social media users have also referenced characters such as Sonic and Bowser in response to the viral post, reflecting broader interest in pop culture-themed memorial products. Bignotto has previously produced themed designs inspired by franchises including Barbie and The Fairly Odd Parents.

The use of Super Mario-inspired designs has drawn particular attention due to the global recognition of the franchise.

Nintendo is known for maintaining strict control over its intellectual property, although no official response has been made regarding the designs.
