'Minor argument' turns into scuffle in girls' hostel

Administration terms viral clips misleading, says context being ignored

NAROWAL:

The administration of a private medical college in Narowal has issued its version of events following reports and videos that went viral on so-cial media of an altercation inside the girls' hos-tel, stating that the situation was brought under control and that normalcy has since been restored.

According to the college administration, the inci-dent began with a minor argument between junior and final-year students in the girls' hostel, which lat-er escalated into a physical altercation.

College officials said the "matter was immediately brought under control after staff intervened to pre-vent the students from harming one another and to restore calm inside the hostel".

A senior college official said prompt action was taken as soon as tensions began to rise and efforts were made to defuse the situation by speaking to students from both groups.

According to the administration, one student in-formed her family about the incident, after which her father reportedly called the police helpline 15.

The college officials said police personnel respond-ed to the call and reached the area outside the hos-tel gate, while the situation inside remained under the supervision of the female warden and female se-curity staff, who had restricted access by closing the main gate as a precautionary measure.

The hostel administration said only female wardens and female guards remained inside the premises to manage the situation and ensure the safety of stu-dents.

Responding to videos circulating on social media, college authorities said some footage was being shared without context and did not accurately re-flect the full situation.
