Two detained men killed in encounter
Two suspects were killed during an alleged encounter by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in the Chung area.
The deceased, Alam Sher and Hashim, were being taken by a CCD for the recovery of illicit weapons and other evidence in the Sundar area when the incident occurred.
Police initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of the encounter as per the standard procedure in incidents involving custodial deaths. Police said that while the suspects were being transported, their armed accomplices allegedly ambushed the team, opening fire in an attempt to secure their release. The police claimed that the officials returned fire.
"As the team reached a sensitive point in the Chung-Sundar corridor, unidentified armed men attacked the police vehicle," a senior police official said. "During the exchange of fire, the two under-custody suspects were critically injured and later succumbed to their injuries."
Officials stated that the attackers managed to flee the scene under the cover of gunfire. No immediate arrests were reported following the incident, while search operations were launched in surrounding areas to trace the assailants.
