Woman shot dead by 'paramour'
A woman was shot dead allegedly by her alleged paramour outside her residence on Tuesday after a dispute over marriage, while a neighbour was critically injured in the firing, police said on Monday.
An FIR has been registered at Saddar Muridke Police Station.
The deceased, Iqra Bibi, a resident of Mubarakabad, was living without her husband, Shah Zaman, who is currently imprisoned in a narcotics case in Gujranwala.
Police said that during her husband's absence, the accused, Muhammad Adil, a relative from Tatlay Aali, developed an illicit relationship with the woman and allegedly promised to marry her if she obtained a divorce.
The relationship continued for a long period, but tensions arose recently when the woman began insisting on marriage.
On the night of the incident, the suspect, accompanied by two unidentified accomplices, arrived armed at the house of the victim's mother.
As Iqra came to open the door, an argument ensued, attracting neighbours who attempted to defuse the situation.
During the altercation, the accused allegedly opened fire, killing the woman on the spot.
A neighbour, also identified as Muhammad Adil, was injured after being hit by bullets and was shifted to hospital in critical condition.
The suspects fled the scene after the incident.
Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim's mother, Shamim Akhtar, and launched a manhunt.
Officials said investigations are under way and the accused will be arrested soon.
Girl killed for 'honour'
In a separate incident, a young girl was allegedly shot dead by her brother in a suspected honour killing in the Dera Tabbay Wala area near Muridke.
Police said the victim, Neelum Bibi, had eloped with a man from her village.
Following a local panchyat decision, she was returned to her family.
Later, her brother Rizwan, allegedly with the consent of their parents, shot her dead during the night and fled.
