LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday heard a contempt of court petition against the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for allegedly failing to implement court orders regarding the removal of blasphemous content from social media platforms.

During the hearing, Justice Sultan Tanveer raised questions about the enforceability of Pakistani laws on global social media platforms such as YouTube and X, particularly in the absence of their physical offices in the country.

The court also inquired why such companies have established offices in neighboring Bangladesh but not in Pakistan.

Justice Tanveer directed the relevant authorities to submit a detailed compliance report on the implementation of court orders to remove objectionable content across all platforms.
