Police in Australia have launched an investigation following allegations made by actor Ruby Rose against singer Katy Perry, according to reports from the Herald Sun.

Victoria Police confirmed that detectives from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are examining a historical allegation.

“Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010,” a representative said. “Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD.”

The investigation follows public claims made by Rose on social media on April 12. “Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks [about the set],” she wrote. Rose later stated that the alleged incident occurred “almost 2 decades” earlier.

In subsequent posts, Rose provided further details about the alleged encounter and said she had previously shared the account in a different context. She also indicated that she had completed formal reports and would no longer comment publicly.

“Hi! Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.”

A representative for Perry denied the allegations in a statement to Us Weekly. “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.”

The statement added that Rose has a history of making public accusations that have been denied by those involved.

Victoria Police stated that the investigation remains ongoing, with no further details released at this stage.
