RWMC staff protests non-regularisation

Union warns of halting sanitation work, continued strikes, protest camps from May

The Municipal Labour Union carried out a protest in front of the Press Club against the decision to forgo the regularisation of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) employees' daily wages and withhold their salary increment.

The union has released a schedule for protests from April 20 which includes dates for protest camps from May 4.

The protest demonstration was held outside the Rawalpindi Press Club under the leadership of Municipal Labour Union President Raja Haroon Rasheed and General Secretary Pastor Shahid Raza against the non-regularisation of daily wages RWMC employees.

A large number of daily wage employees of participated in the protest and raised slogans, demanding job security. Addressing the protesters, president Rasheed said that not making daily wages employees who have been serving for a long time permanent is unfair.

"The employees have been working at very low wages for many years, but despite this, promises to make them permanent are not being fulfilled. If the employees' problems are not resolved immediately, the scope of the protest will be expanded," he warned, announcing that a series of protests will be held in various union councils of the city from April 20, in which all employees will participate in full force.

He disclosed that protest rallies will be held at Suthra Punjab Agency, Iran Road on April 20, General Bus Stand Pirwadhai on April 22, Shehbaz Sharif Hockey Ground Union Council on April 24, Mukha Singh Estate on April 27, Children Park, Committee Chowk on April 29, and Potohar Town, Kotha Kalan, Dhok Chohdian on May 2.
