Doki Doki Literature Club removed from Google Play as developers challenge decision
Doki Doki Literature Club removed from Google Play over content concerns as developers seek reinstatement

Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from the Google Play Store, with its developers confirming the takedown and responding to the reasoning behind the decision.
The visual novel, which initially launched as a free-to-play title, presents itself as an anime-style dating simulation before shifting into psychological horror.
The game explores themes of mental health and trauma, incorporating fourth-wall breaks and unconventional gameplay elements that have contributed to its popularity among players.
Google stated that the removal was due to the game violating its Terms of Service regarding “depiction of sensitive themes”. Following the decision, the development team issued a response addressing both the removal and the game’s intent.
“DDLC is widely celebrated for portraying mental health in a way that meaningfully connects deeply with players around the world, helping them feel heard, understood, and less alone on their journey”, the developers said, while acknowledging the presence of “depiction of sensitive themes.”
The team also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to restore the game to the platform. “We’re continuing to do everything we can to find a path forward for getting DDLC reinstated on the Google Play Store. Meanwhile, we’re also looking into potential options for alternative methods of distribution on Android devices,” they stated.
The developers added that the game remains accessible on other platforms, noting that “DDLC is available on many different major platforms, including iOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and more.”
