Shortfall: Electricity deficit rises to 4,390MW

The electricity deficit in the country on Sunday further soared to 4,390MW from 3,801MW.

ISLAMABAD: The electricity deficit in the country on Sunday further soared to 4,390MW from 3,801MW compelling Pakistan Electric Supply Company (Pepco) to carry out eight to ten hours power load-shedding in urban and rural areas respectively. According to the brief on daily power generation and load-management, the total power generation was recorded as 12,889MW against the demand of 17,279MW during the last 24 hours. Hydel generation stood at 6,164MW, Wapda thermal 1,307MW, IPPs 5,298MW and Rental 120MW.  As many as 710MW was supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company, the report added. The Tarbela and Mangla dams had attained their maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet and 1,210 feet respectively. The Central Power Purchase Agency has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority to increase in power tariff by Rs3.06 per unit.
