Two brothers were killed in an alleged police encounter in Khanpur tehsil of district Rahim Yar Khan, police said.
The deceased were identified as Asif Bhatti and his younger brother Tauheed Bhatti alias Khokhar.
Both belonged to tehsil Jitoi of district Muzaffargarh. Police sources said that Asif Bhatti alias Khokhar had worked as a writer for investigation officers posted at different police stations.
Police records also showed that the father of the accused had been booked at various police stations in cases of robbery, theft and other street crimes.
According to officials, the incident occurred when police encountered the accused in Khanpur and an exchange of fire took place, resulting in the death of both brothers on the spot. Police said information had been received regarding the recovery of weapons and stolen goods from the accused.
The bodies were shifted to hospital for postmortem, and officials said investigation into the recovery of weapons and goods had been initiated to hand over the items to the rightful owners.
