Multan to get modern children's medical tower

JICA-backed project aims to improve treatment access across the region

In a step towards strengthening child healthcare in South Punjab, a Rs6 billion modern medical tower project at the Children's Complex Multan, supported by Japan, has formally moved forward, promising advanced treatment facilities for thousands of children across Multan and surrounding regions.

The ceremony, titled "Consultant Signing Ceremony," was held at Children's Hospital Multan under the supervision of Dean Dr Kashif Chishti.

The project is part of a broader programme aimed at improving child healthcare facilities across South Punjab.

Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan attended the event as chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddiq participated as guest of honour.

Medical Superintendent Dr Kamran Asif, along with senior faculty members including Prof Waqas Imran and Prof Sohail Arshad, as well as doctors and nurses, were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kashif Chishti said the project, worth over Rs6 billion, has effectively commenced following the signing ceremony.

He added that a detailed survey will now be conducted, after which the structural design will be approved.

Equipment for the project will be procured from Japan, and the construction is expected to be completed within three years.

He further stated that under the project, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be upgraded to a 65-bed facility.

The new tower will also house modern diagnostic services, including CT scan, ultrasound, and a state-of-the-art laboratory.

The building will be connected to the existing structure through a bridge, ensuring integrated healthcare services.

Prof Chishti expressed gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood for their support.

He noted that the new tower would benefit not only Multan but also patients from across South Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other remote areas by providing access to advanced medical treatment.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan in bringing the project to this stage.

The JICA delegation included Japanese consultants. Teradayoshi Tsumoto (team leader), Kohei Nishikawa, and Minoru Yamashita, who attended the ceremony.

The project marks the beginning of practical steps under the initiative titled "Improvement of Child Healthcare Facilities in South Punjab," aimed at ensuring modern medical services at the Children's Complex Multan.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the agreement, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony attended by the commissioner, the dean, and members of the JICA team.
