Australian pop star Sia has reached a new legal agreement with her estranged husband Dan Bernad that requires the singer to pay substantial monthly child support following their ongoing divorce proceedings.

According to court documents filed in Los Angeles County and reported by multiple outlets, Sia agreed to pay Bernad $42,500 per month in child support for their young son. The payments began on April 1, 2026 and will continue until the child turns 18, or up to age 19 if he remains in high school.

The settlement marks a major step forward in the former couple’s contentious divorce process. Sia and Bernad share a son named Somersault Wonder Bernad, who was born in March 2024. As part of the agreement, the pair will maintain joint legal custody, with a structured physical custody schedule determining where their child spends time throughout the year.

Beyond the monthly payments, Sia will also cover several additional expenses related to their son’s upbringing. Court documents show she is responsible for private school tuition, healthcare costs not covered by insurance and agreed upon extracurricular activities. The singer must also maintain a $5 million life insurance policy naming their son as the beneficiary to ensure long term financial security.

The settlement arrives after a highly public legal dispute between the couple. Sia and Bernad married in 2022 before separating and filing for divorce in March 2025 after roughly two years of marriage.

In the months that followed, their case became increasingly complicated. Bernad previously sought sole legal and physical custody of their son, claiming the singer struggled with substance abuse and was an unreliable parent. Sia denied those accusations and stated she had been sober for several months while participating in a recovery programme. A judge ultimately rejected Bernad’s request for sole custody.

Financial issues also played a role in the dispute. Bernad had earlier requested significant spousal support and child support during the proceedings, arguing that he relied on Sia financially after leaving his medical career to pursue other ventures.

While the broader divorce proceedings are still unfolding, the child support agreement appears to settle one of the most pressing issues between the former couple. The arrangement also establishes detailed guidelines for holidays, communication and parenting schedules moving forward.

Sia, known globally for hits such as ‘Chandelier’, has largely kept her personal life private throughout her career. The legal agreement now sets the framework for how the singer and Bernad will co parent their son as they continue to finalise the terms of their separation.
