Organizers of Wireless Festival are standing firm on their decision to have Kanye West headline all three nights of the 2026 event, despite mounting backlash and growing calls for the rapper to be barred from entering the UK.

The controversy has intensified over the past week, with several major sponsors, including Pepsi, reportedly withdrawing their support following the announcement. Additional branding partnerships have also been affected, signaling increasing pressure on the festival over its decision.

Criticism has also come from prominent political figures. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly described the booking as “deeply concerning,” citing West’s past antisemitic remarks. Meanwhile, Conservative MP Chris Philp and Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey have called for the artist to be banned from entering the country altogether.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan also weighed in, stating that West’s past comments are “offensive and wrong” and do not reflect the city’s values, while clarifying that the booking decision rests solely with festival organizers.

Despite the backlash, festival chief Melvin Benn defended the decision, emphasizing that West has a legal right to perform in the UK. In a statement, Benn noted that the artist’s music continues to be widely available and consumed in the country, arguing that the performance is about music rather than providing a platform for controversial views.

Benn also appealed for a more forgiving perspective, suggesting that society has become increasingly divided and less willing to offer second chances. While acknowledging the severity of West’s past remarks, he said he believes in allowing room for growth and change.

The debate comes amid ongoing scrutiny of West’s behavior in recent years, including controversial public statements and legal issues. The rapper, who now goes by Ye, has faced widespread criticism for antisemitic comments and other inflammatory remarks, which have repeatedly sparked public backlash.

As it stands, Kanye West is still expected to perform at Wireless Festival, with organizers making it clear they have no plans to remove him from the lineup. The situation, however, continues to evolve as pressure from sponsors, politicians, and the public grows.
