ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the federal government, Ministry of National Food Security, Ministry of Interior, and Islamabad Food Authority (IFA), seeking responses in a petition challenging the establishment of the authority and related appointments.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued a one-page written order on the petition filed by citizen Muhammad Fayyaz. The court noted that, according to the petitioner, the Islamabad Capital Territory Food Safety Act 2021 was violated, as the authority was established without a gazette notification and approval of the federal cabinet.

The petitioner's counsel argued that under the Supreme Court's Mustafa Impex case, the term "federal government" refers to the prime minister and the cabinet.
