Renowned Urologist Dr Asif critically injured in targeted attack

Renowned urologist and pioneer of kidney transplants in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Dr Asif Malik, was critically injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on him in the early hours of Wednesday in Peshawar, according to a police statement.
Malik, originally from Kohat, is a renowned urologist and a specialist in kidney transplants. He previously served as the Director of the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) in Peshawar and has worked as a kidney transplant surgeon at various private hospitals. He is currently the head of a leading private hospital in Peshawar.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt Abdullah Ehsan, Malik was attacked by unknown assailants while travelling in his car.
"The attack took place very close to his residence in University Town, Peshawar. The case is under active investigation, and we are working to identify those responsible," he said.
Ehsan further added that the investigation was underway, and the police were reviewing CCTV footage from the Safe City Peshawar camera system, the BRT, and other key areas to trace the attackers.

In an official statement, the Peshawar General Hospital (PGH) said that Malik was stable and getting medical care, urging the public to respect Malik and his family’s privacy during this time.
PGH said that any official updates regarding Malik’s condition would be shared through authorised channels only.
