KARACHI:

Another Pakistani national was killed on Sunday in an Israeli strike on Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, bringing the total number of Pakistani deaths to five since the US–Israel war with Iran began.

This is not the first such incident involving Pakistani citizens in the UAE. Last week, a Pakistani citizen was killed in Abu Dhabi’s Sweihan Street area. Earlier, on February 28, another Pakistani national was killed during the interception of an Iranian missile. A second Pakistani was killed in Dubai’s Al Barsha area on March 8, followed by the third fatality in Abu Dhabi’s Bani Yas area on March 17.

The broader regional conflict began on Feb 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran. Since then, Iranian missile and drone attacks have targeted Israel as well as US-linked and strategic sites across several Gulf states, widening the danger zone for expatriate workers, including large Pakistani communities in the UAE and elsewhere in the region.

According to the family, Yasir, 26, had travelled to Iran six months ago in search of employment, working on a tugboat responsible for assisting ships with docking operations near the port. His last contact with his family was on Eid during a video call.

The family said they were informed of the incident by one of Yasir’s colleagues, who reported that their vessel had come under attack. The shipping company later confirmed his death. Yasir, a resident of Younusabad in Mauripur, Karachi, was survived by his wife and a child.

On March 7, another Pakistani death occurred when a fisherman from Gwadar lost his life after debris from an Israeli missile, intercepted by Iranian air defence systems, struck his boat in Iranian waters.

On March 6, falling debris in Abu Dhabi injured six Pakistani and Nepalese nationals because of an intercepted drone and wider missile activity over the UAE.
