Senate returns Rs265m to exchequer

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has approved the surrender of Rs265 million to the national exchequer as an immediate step to support the country's finances.

The Senate Secretariat reviewed its expenses and returned the amount to the Finance Division.

The move is part of the austerity drive announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Gilani directed the Secretariat to fully implement austerity measures and continue efforts to cut spending.

He said more savings are being identified and may also be deposited in the national exchequer in the coming weeks.
