An additional district and sessions judge on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for abducting, raping and murdering a woman from the upscale DHA neighbourhood.
Judge Irshad Hussain announced the verdict, ruling that the prosecution had successfully established its case against the accused, Fayyaz. The court also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 and ordered that the amount be paid to the victim's legal heirs.
However, the court acquitted co-accused Nasreen due to lack of evidence, observing that no material evidence had been produced against her and that a conviction could not be based solely on the statement of a co-accused.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in November 2020 when the convict lured the victim, Ansar Bibi, from DHA, Phase VII, to Ibrahim Hyderi. There, he subjected her to sexual assault and later murdered her by stabbing. The victim's body was recovered nearly a month later on the identification of the accused.
Nine years for sharing woman's explicit images
A judicial magistrate in District East sentenced a man to a cumulative nine years' imprisonment for sharing a woman's explicit images and videos with her in-laws.
Judicial Magistrate handed down the verdict, convicting the accused, Imad, and also imposing a fine exceeding Rs1 million. In its written order, the court observed that the accused resorted to sharing the videos out of revenge after the woman refused to engage in a physical relationship. The court termed the case a stark example of societal attitudes where men fail to accept refusal, underlining that no one has the right to force a woman without her consent. It also underscored the need for stronger government action to address such issues.
