Lahore on high alert as PSL 11 kicks off

Over 6,000 personnel deployed, multi-layered plan in place for opening match

LAHORE:

Authorities have put in place extensive and multi-layered security arrangements across Lahore as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 gets under way, with the opening match scheduled at Gaddafi Stadium under heightened vigilance.

Officials said a comprehensive joint security plan has been finalised by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and Lahore Police, covering key locations including the stadium, Allama Iqbal International Airport, team hotels and designated routes.

The opening fixture will feature Lahore Qalandars taking on Hyderabad Kings, as security across the city remains on high alert.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said a multi-tier security cordon has been established in and around the stadium, with strict monitoring in place.

More than 6,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of players, officials and the public.

The deployment includes nine SPs, 29 DSPs, 61 SHOs/inspectors, 478 upper subordinates and 5,786 personnel, along with 54 women police officers assigned to security duties.

Authorities said extraordinary arrangements have been made for both local and foreign players, with stringent measures at team residences and along travel routes. Continuous monitoring of player movements is being ensured.

Due to sensitive security conditions, spectators have not been allowed entry to the stadium for the opening match, officials confirmed, adding that law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared to respond to any situation.

Search, sweep and combing operations are ongoing in areas surrounding the venue, while Safe City cameras are providing uninterrupted surveillance.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem said the department is committed to ensuring a peaceful environment for PSL matches, adding that coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board, district administration and other agencies has been completed.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said a total of 22 PSL matches will be held in Lahore this season, with over 6,000 personnel deployed throughout the event.
