Rio de Janeiro mayor bans Chappell Roan from Todo Mundo No Rio festival after Jude Law daughter scandal

Eduardo Cavaliere issued a public statement on social media confirming the decision

Chappell Roan has reportedly been barred from performing at Brazil’s free, annual international Todo Mundo No Rio festival held at Copacabana Beach following a viral incident involving a young fan, prompting intervention from Rio de Janeiro’s mayor. 

Eduardo Cavaliere, the mayor of the city where the festival is set to take place, issued a public statement on social media confirming the decision. He wrote, “I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city – this young lady will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!”

The development follows reports of an encounter in São Paulo during Lollapalooza Brazil, where Roan was staying at the same hotel as Brazilian footballer Jorginho Frello and his family. Jorginho, a former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder now playing for Flamengo, shared details of the situation involving his wife, Catherine Harding, also known as Cat Cavelli, and her 11-year-old daughter, Ada, with Jude Law.

Frello said his daughter had been “extremely excited” and had even prepared a sign for the concert. During breakfast at the hotel, she reportedly walked past the singer’s table, smiling but not speaking or approaching directly. He stated that shortly afterwards, a member of the security team approached them and spoke “extremely aggressively”, accusing the child of “disrespect” and “harassment”.

He wrote, “My daughter got super scared and cried a lot. Honestly, I don’t know in what world just passing by a table and looking… can be considered harassment.”

Addressing the situation more broadly, he added, “Without your fans you would be nobody. And to the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”

In response, Mayor Cavaliere also reached out publicly to the family, telling Frello,: “…your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May!”

The festival, scheduled to take place later this year, has so far confirmed Shakira as a headline performer. Representatives for Roan have not publicly commented on the incident.
