UAE, Saudi Arabia intercept aerial threats as Middle East conflict widens

The United Arab Emirates said Sunday it intercepted aerial threats as the Middle East conflict expanded across the Gulf, WAM reported, with missile activity reported in Saudi Arabia and fresh strikes between Iran and Israel.

Missiles over Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia reported detecting three ballistic missiles near its capital overnight. One was intercepted, while two landed in an uninhabited area, the defense ministry said.
Authorities also said five drones were shot down since midnight. A brief public warning issued by Civil Defence was lifted minutes later after the threat was assessed to have passed.
The incidents reflect growing spillover from the conflict triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Strikes between Iran and Israel
Israel said it carried out strikes on Tehran early Sunday, hours after Iranian missiles hit southern Israeli towns, wounding more than 100 people.
Iranian state media described the attack as retaliation for earlier strikes on nuclear-related facilities, including Natanz.
Israel said it targeted sites linked to missile production, while Iran claimed it struck an Israeli warplane. The claims could not be independently confirmed.
Regional incidents added strain
In Qatar, a military helicopter crashed into the sea during a routine mission due to a technical malfunction, authorities said. Search operations for crew and passengers were ongoing, with no confirmed link to the conflict.
In Lebanon, escalating exchanges involving Hezbollah have led to increased casualties and humanitarian concerns, as international aid efforts begin.
Diplomatic pressure is mounting, with the Group of Seven nations and the European Union calling for an immediate halt to attacks and urging de-escalation.
