Nintendo is reportedly preparing a revised version of the Nintendo Switch 2 for the European market, with changes designed to comply with upcoming “right to repair” legislation.

According to reports citing Nikkei, the updated model would allow users to manually replace the battery in both the console and its Joy-Con 2 controllers.

This would mark a departure from the current design, which uses a fixed battery that is difficult for users to remove.

The reported redesign is linked to European Union regulations aimed at improving product repairability and reducing electronic waste.

The legislation, adopted in June 2024, requires manufacturers to make devices easier to maintain, with member states expected to implement national rules by July 2026.

Under the proposed changes, the revised Switch 2 model would feature a battery system that can be accessed and replaced without specialist tools.

The adjustment is intended to align with the EU’s broader push for longer product lifecycles and increased consumer control over repairs.

The update is currently expected to apply only to the European market. However, the report suggests that similar modifications could be introduced in other regions depending on regulatory developments and consumer demand.

Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of the revised model or provided details on potential release timing.

The company has also not commented on whether the current version of the console will receive any design updates globally.
