Developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have confirmed they will not establish a single canon ending as work continues on a potential sequel set in the same universe.

The game features two distinct endings, each determined by the player’s final choice between characters Maelle and Verso.

Both outcomes present different consequences for the story and its characters, leading to ongoing discussion among players about which version represents the “true” conclusion.

However, Sandfall Interactive has indicated that it does not intend to prioritise either outcome. Writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen addressed the topic in an interview, stating: “We are not going to pick one.”

When asked if that position could change, she added, “Never say never, but there is no canon ending there. It is a Schrodinger's ending.”

The dual-ending structure was reportedly planned early in development. According to Svedberg-Yen, the narrative direction deliberately avoided a conventional resolution.

“We never even considered really a true, happy ending,” she said, noting that both outcomes were designed to reflect contrasting perspectives rather than a definitive conclusion.

While Sandfall Interactive has confirmed ongoing work on another project, it remains unclear how, or if, the events of Expedition 33 will directly shape its narrative direction.
