Extortionist held for demanding Rs5m

The Surjani Town police have arrested an extortionist who allegedly demanded money from a contractor.

According to details, the extortionist identified as Bilawal allegedly demanded Rs5 million from contractor Afsar Khan, who was constructing a house in Saiban Society, Khuda Ki Basti.

The complainant, Afsar Khan, stated that he owns an 80-square-yard plot in the same society and possesses all legal documents. He also maintains a warehouse there to store construction materials. On March 14, he was present at the site along with his cousin Nisar Khan and labourers when Bilawal, along with accomplices Rajab, Ahmed, Waheed, and several unidentified people, arrived.

Bilawal and Rajab allegedly brandished weapons and demanded Rs5 million, warning that failure to pay would result in his death.

The suspects also damaged the boundary walls of the property before leaving.

Following the complaint, Surjani Town police registered FIR and later arrested nominated suspect Bilawal, while raids are being conducted to apprehend the remaining accomplices.

Police further revealed that the arrested suspect, along with his associates, had also demanded Rs6 million in extortion from the project officer, Akhtar Ali, for construction work in the same society. A separate case has also been registered against the accused and his accomplices.
