Japanese company PANDORA has announced the trademark registration of “XTuber”, a new creator category that blends virtual and real-world content formats.

The term, read as “CrossTuber” in Japanese, was confirmed on March 16 2026. It describes creators who operate across both virtual avatar-based streaming and real-life appearances, combining elements of traditional VTubing with in-person content.

According to the company, the concept reflects changes within the digital creator industry, where virtual performers are increasingly expanding beyond avatar-only formats.

While some creators have already adopted similar approaches, PANDORA stated that XTuber is the first officially defined and trademarked term for this hybrid model.

The company said the category aims to address the lack of a clear definition for creators working across both formats, as the market for virtual performers continues to grow.

Alongside the announcement, PANDORA confirmed it is now accepting applications for creators interested in becoming XTubers.

The initiative is part of a broader programme called Project YOHANE, which is designed to support new entrants into the space.

The programme aims to lower common barriers to entry, including costs, technical requirements and streaming setup. It also offers support for monetisation through streaming activities.

Applications are open globally and do not require prior experience in streaming. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, and the programme is open to all genders. Participants are not required to show their face, reflecting the flexibility of the format.

PANDORA said the selection process will include an application review followed by an online interview. Successful applicants will be invited to join the programme, with admissions closing once all available slots are filled.

The company stated that its long-term goal is to expand the XTuber category worldwide by supporting creators who can move between digital avatars and real-world content.
