Suspect arrested in injured condition after alleged suicide attempt

A man allegedly killed his wife and five children with an axe over suspected illicit relations in Chak 25 South of the Bhagtanwala area on Monday.
The suspect was later arrested in an injured condition after attempting to set himself on fire, police said.
According to police, the accused, Yaseen Mallah, allegedly murdered his wife Farukhanda and their five children in a brutal attack.
The victims included 18-year-old Noor Fatima, 14-year-old Ali Hassan, 11-year-old Tayyab, two-year-old Hasnain, and a one-year-old infant son.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly injured himself and was shifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Rescue teams and police reached the scene soon after receiving information and took the bodies into custody before shifting them to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case at Bhagtanwala police station on the complaint of the deceased woman's brother and initiated legal proceedings.
Speaking about the incident, SP Investigation Imran said that according to initial investigations, the suspect believed that his wife and daughter had illicit relations with a man identified as Mustafa. Acting in a fit of rage, he allegedly killed his wife and all five children.
He said the suspect later called a relative to inform him about the incident and subsequently attempted suicide.
Upon receiving the call, relatives reached the house, overpowered the injured suspect and shifted him to hospital.
The SP Investigation added that police have also taken the man named Mustafa into custody, while the main suspect remains under police guard at the hospital.
Authorities said the case is being investigated from all angles and that efforts are underway to ensure strict punishment for those found responsible.
After the post-mortem, the bodies of the six victims were handed over to their family members. Funeral prayers were offered in Chak 25 South, attended by a large number of residents.
According to relatives, after the funeral prayers, the bodies were taken to Lalian for burial.
