Punjab launches waste-to-energy initiative

Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development Zeeshan Rafique said the Waste-to-Value component is a key phase of the Suthra Punjab Programme, under which thousands of tons of collected waste will be utilised for energy generation.
He was chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review progress on the Waste-to-Value phase of the programme, launched on the directions of Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab.
Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Director General of the Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din also attended the meeting.
The minister said that a pilot bio-CNG plant at the Lakhodair Landfill Site has started production. He said the facility is currently producing around 85 kilogrammes of CNG daily from waste.
