HBO has unveiled the official plot for The Gilded Age Season 4 while confirming new cast additions and a promotion for Kelley Curran.

Curran, who has portrayed Enid “Turner” Winterton since Season 1, has been elevated to series regular. Joining the period drama as guest stars are Jim Gaffigan, Dallas Roberts, Elizabeth Marvel and Andrew Burnap.

They will appear alongside returning cast members Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Taissa Farmiga and Audra McDonald.

The official logline states: Bertha Russell (Coon) changed Society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn (Baranski) seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian (Jacobson) forges a new path for herself and Peggy (Benton) works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.

Season 3 concluded with mounting pressure on Bertha and George Russell (Spector), raising questions about the stability of their marriage. The new season is expected to explore the consequences of ambition and social standing within New York’s elite circles.

Curran’s promotion follows storylines involving Oscar van Rhijn (Ritson) and speculation over potential marriages, including Marian and Larry (Richardson), and Peggy and Dr William Kirkland (Jordan Donica), who was recently promoted to series regular.

Among the new roles, Gaffigan will portray Grover Cleveland, the 22nd President of the United States. Roberts will play Daniel Manning, Secretary of the Treasury under Cleveland. Marvel joins as Nurse Virginia Saville, and Burnap will portray Porter, a young Society gentleman with an Ivy League education.

The Gilded Age is created, written and executive produced by Julian Fellowes for HBO and Universal Television.
