'Evil Dead' star Bruce Campbell reveals 'treatable not curable' cancer diagnosis
Bruce Campbell has announced that he has been diagnosed with a form of cancer described as “treatable not curable”.
The 67-year-old actor, known for his roles in the Evil Dead franchise and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, shared the news with fans on social media on Monday, explaining that upcoming professional commitments would be affected.
In a detailed post, Campbell wrote, “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that — I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable,’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
He added that appearances, fan conventions and work projects would “take a back seat to treatment” in the coming months. “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change,” he wrote, outlining plans to focus on his health over the summer.
Campbell said he hopes to resume touring in the autumn in support of his forthcoming film Ernie & Emma. Concluding his statement, he wrote, “I’m not trying to enlist sympathy — or advice — I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out. Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.”
Campbell rose to prominence in 1981’s The Evil Dead, later reprising his role as Ash Williams in sequels and the television series Ash vs Evil Dead.
