PESHAWAR:

In a major push toward digital governance and rural development, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the Livestock Management Information System (LMIS), a modern centralized digital platform designed to revolutionize service delivery, enhance transparency, and strengthen the livestock sector, a vital pillar of the province's rural economy.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi formally inaugurated the LMIS during a ceremony at the Chief Minister's House in Peshawar. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the livestock industry's critical role as the backbone of rural livelihoods, supporting countless farming families across the province.

"The livestock sector is essential to our rural economy," Afridi stated. "Our government is committed to modernizing it through comprehensive digital reforms. The LMIS will streamline administrative processes, increase operational efficiency, and ensure greater transparency in delivering services to farmers."

The initiative marks a significant step in the provincial government's ongoing efforts to digitize public services. By integrating livestock-related activities into a unified digital interface, the system connects farmers directly with veterinary hospitals, mobile veterinary units, field staff, and research institutions. This interconnected network promises faster, more reliable access to essential services.

Key features of the LMIS include the establishment of a toll-free livestock helpline, enabling farmers to receive immediate technical guidance and advisory support from qualified experts. For the first time in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, authorities will develop a comprehensive geo-tagged database of livestock farmers and their animals. Digital records will track details such as breed, age, and gender, while the procurement, distribution, and use of medicines and vaccines will be closely monitored to prevent misuse and ensure accountability.

Animals will be identified using QR codes, facilitating accurate tracking and management. The system also introduces real-time disease surveillance capabilities, allowing for early detection of outbreaks, swift responses, and improved prevention and control measures against livestock diseases.

The Chief Minister described the LMIS as the starting point for a broader wave of reforms in the sector. "This digital framework will directly benefit our farmers by improving access to veterinary care and holding institutions more accountable," he said.
